Add Another Store?

Hi, I wonder of anyone can advise?
I need to add another store in addition to my default install.
This will use seperate template files and layout files.
The subdomain is /shop
Had some success but its still not working, I keep getting 404 error messages when clicking on a link in the substore 
Can anyone help, advise me where Iam going wrong please?
Iam using Magento 1.5
