Manipulating the Compare function

Hi,

I am trying to use the compare function to show detailed specs of every ladder in a range like this -

http://www.ladder-store.com/catalog/product_compare/index/items/45,46,47,48,49,50,51

However, if I then try to compare another range of ladders separately (again, to show detailed specs side by side), the next range of compared products is just appended to the previous ones.

What I really need to be able to do is clear the compare function before I call it again so that I do not end up with a long list of product displayed on the compare page.

How would I go about automatically clearing compared products before each range comparison? Is there anyway to use the Remove or Clear All functions from the Compare function?

I understand this is probably quite involved and may require custom work but its a feature we really need so any help, ideas or contacts with others who might be able to help would be much appreciated.
