Registration confirmation based upon Category

Hai,

I want to have new user registration confirmation based upon user category.

For category 1, there is no need of email confirmation. The user can straight away can log in and use the system.

But for category 2, the registration status should be pending until the account is activated by me(admin) or one of my staff member.

Can any one suggest me how to get this done.
