Magento: Batch Updating Special Price Using Admin Tools Not Taking Effect
This is a strange one, hang with me.
So we did a big product import and accidentally set the Special Price to the same value as Price. What we discovered is that this will trump any catalog price rules (see here: http://www.blastedthing.com/magento/admin/mag-site-wide-catalog-price-rules-do-not-over-ride-special-prices/ )
I set out to blank out this field. I tested this theory on one product, and edited it through the Magento admin individually. Saved, cleared cache & reindexed, boom. That product is showing the correct price. Perfect.
Now, I have quite a few of these products, so I set out to use the batch edit tools in the Magento admin to pull the same trick. I use Select All, then Update Attributes. On the next screen I clicked Change next to Special Price, and left it blank. Saved (all 10,000 products or so), cleared cache & reindexed.
I pull up the web site and I still don’t see the correct catalog prices.
To be sure, I go back to the admin and pull up one product which isn’t reflecting catalog prices, and indeed it’s showing nothing in the box for Special Price. For grins, I save it and then clear cache & reindex, and BOOM. That product is now displaying the correct catalog price.
So I’m deducing there’s something different that happens when you update a product individually versus in batch, perhaps unique to the Special Price field.
Given that, this smells like a bug to me (we’re running EE 1.10 FWIW). Does anyone have any suggestions for clever workarounds here?
